Skills: 10 Mistakes that Most People Make

The Importance of Teaching Life Skills to Teens

Educational statistics have proven that though teens often give the impression that they know it all, this is after all not the case. Basic life skills may not be taught in High School and often may not get these lessons at Home. For while it is true that education gives your children the knowledge they need about different subjects and can be can be very good in them, but it does not necessarily equip them with the essential life skills that says “don’t’ rely on others to supply what you need to know, instead figure out what you want out of life and teach yourself how to get it”. This is commonly called being street smart. If children learn life skills, they would not have a difficult time succeeding in life.

The value of money is what teens of today need to learn about. Most teens are not taught the value of money since they simply ask their parents to buy them things that they want, and parents, on their part, simply give it to whatever the teens want without teaching them how one earns money, the value of saving money, working hard to have money, and waiting until money comes to buy what they want.

Kids do not only need to learn the value of money, they also need to learn how to handle it well. Teens need to learn what taxes mean, how to save, how to balance their accounts and how to budget. What teens of today lack is the skill of earning money, saving money, giving money, and spending money wisely. Those are the basics about money that no educational institute is engage in or is teaching their students or playact it. Besides many teens may not be able to find a side job in school or encourage to work part time since this is most often thought as something distasteful, or a step away from being fully involved in sports and school activities.
Figuring Out Skills

Teens need to learn to cook, clean, and do laundry. The skills are very valuable wherever a teen lives, works, or goes to school. Sometimes kids spend most of their money on food bought outdoors since they don’t have the skill to cook, they don’t love it or feel responsible for it, and so they are unwise when it comes to spending and saving money.
What Do You Know About Schools

It is important for our teens to at least know how to mend tears or put a new button or fix a hole in a seam. Home economics is no longer part of many school curriculums.

They need to learn basic polite conversation. Teens should learn how to greet their parents properly and say thank you when their parents or adults does something for them. It actually is “respect” which is not anymore a common commodity to teens these days.
